I’m getting pretty jealous of everyone’s Fall instagram photos (and I’m starting to see snow too! Wowsers!). Down here we’re just about to hit summer head on so the only fallen leaves I’m seeing are the poor leaves on our overheated plants.
To make up for the lack of lovely leaves down here at the moment, I thought I’d follow the lead from Lauren of A Fabulous Fete and make some painted ones instead.
TIP: wrap your leaves in greaseproof paper and place under some heavy books for a few days to dry them out.
Step 01: Paint a base for your leaves.
You’ll need a few coats depending on the colour of your dried leaves.
Step 02: Add another colour to your leaves.
You can paint on stripes, dots of whatever pattern takes your fancy!
Step 03: Tie the ends of your gold thread together and then sewing from the bottom go up onto the right side of the leaf and down again to the wrong side.
You can now attach your leaves to whatever you like.
You can make a garland by sewing them together.
This would a pretty Thanksgiving decoration don’t you think?
To make your little painted leaves tree, place your leaves on a branch to see where you’d like them to be attached.
Then, using the same technique as you did for sewing the garland, sew your leaves onto the branch.
Wrap the ends of the leaves around the branch with your gold thread to keep them secure.
To finish, just sew your thread through the back of the wrapped part and tie a knot.
I really love having this pop of colour on my studio desk.
Polka dots always make for happy decor!
